Teenage Girl Suffers Agonising Injuries After Becoming Trapped In Jellyfish Tentacles While Swimming

A teenage girl suffered agonising injuries after becoming trapped in jellyfish tentacles while swimming off the UK coast.

Verity Stainton 13, was left screaming in pain when the jellyfish wrapped around her limbs as she cooled down in the sea at Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire.

The youngster ran from the water with the tentacles still attached to her body and has now been left with red marks on her legs, arms and back.

Verity's mum Christina has issued a warning for others to keep a look out while they're swimming in the area.

She said: "She started screaming she had been stung by a jellyfish, and ran towards the shore.

"The tentacles were wrapped round her body, and her arms and fingers. "They were very, very long and white.

"She pulled them off while one of her friends went to fetch the lifeguard and another friend stayed with her to help get the tentacles off.

"She came home and was checked by paramedics when I called 111 for advice.

"She has large stings to her thighs, and rashes on her legs. She has whip like marks on her arm and her back and buttocks.

"The stings are very nasty and very painful. "She's taking ibuprofen and antihistamines."

Christina added: "I think people need to be aware that there are jellyfish in the sea.

"My daughter still had long tentacles dangling off her arm at that point.
